WHOOSH!

January’s arrival hit us like a storm—quite literally, as we got about four inches of snow. For those of you who laugh, please realize that it hasn’t really snowed at all here for a couple years and that our last snowstorm of any kind was way back in ’96! January also introduced us to a blizzard (flurry?) of activity, as Tim started a class at the Seminary, and we were busy visiting churches, traveling, and in conferences. So, January's prayer letter was sacrificed at the feet of Hermeneutics papers and the like, and has now become February’s letter! We have had a good beginning to the year, though, hearing of more support, enjoying our time in several churches, and watching Drew grow up. He is walking all over the place, and has discovered the joys of being Outside! A few weeks ago we decided, why should we lug his 25 pounds out to the car when he can walk himself? So he walks to the car and back, but it is with some reluctance that he goes inside again!

God has been good to us. A few weeks ago we got notice from EBM that our support requirements were increasing by about $250, to about $4800. That really was depressing news, as we were approaching the 80% mark and with $1000/month left to raise. But within a week of that news, we learned of new and increasing support that pushed us beyond the level we'd been before. Obviously the LORD is in control, and our job is to trust Him and be faithful in our work--pre-field, for now. Also, Tim's sister, Jana, who was the missionary in the family for the last five months in Togo, West Africa, came home safely after experiencing God's good hand in her life over there.

A couple large things loom on our horizon. This Saturday, I (Tim) fly down to San Diego and will spend the week in Tecate, just over the border, as part of a team from Bethany Bible Church. I am looking forward to taking part of some ministry in Mexico. It should be a good time. At the same time, I'm encountering "separation anxiety" (mildly) from Barbara-Lee and Drew--a whole week away from them! That is sort of funny; many people spend much longer than that away from family for any number of reasons--whether for business, or for the military, or for the Lord--but this will be the longest time I've been away from both of them. It will no doubt make me more appreciative and thankful for all we are able to do together.

One of the differences in our time of pre-field with many missionaries back East has been that our travels have mostly been weekend trips of two or three hours on average. Pre-fielders often spend weeks, or months on the road (perhaps some of you reading this know from experience!). That's about to change. In March and April we'll being going out to Idaho twice and Montana once. We are excited to be in those new (for us) areas.

Our upcoming schedule is:
Feb. 1 Temple Baptist Church, Tacoma, Washington
Feb. 8 First Baptist of Bainbridge Island, Washington
Feb. 13-21 Missions trip to Tecate, Mexico with Bethany Bible Church
Feb. 25-29 Valley Bible Church (missions conf.), Sumner, Washington
Mar. 7 Trinity Baptist Church, Yakima, Washington
Mar. 8-10 First Baptist Church, Columbia Falls, Montana
Mar. 14 Valley Baptist Church, Priest River, Idaho
Mar. 21 Faith Baptist Church, Sequim, Washington
Mar. 24 New Hope Baptist Church, Spokane, Washington
Mar. 28 Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lewiston, Idaho

PRAISE:
1. God's provision of new support.
2. Jana's time in Togo and her safe return.
3. A continuing full schedule.

PRAYER:
1. Tim is trying to re-start a Bible study with our neighbor. Pray that God would work in that.
2. We need wisdom in starting the process of moving and getting rid of things so we are more ready to move to Puebla.
3. Tim's trip to Tecate, that the group would be unified and effective in helping the church we're in and reaching people.
