You almost certainly didn't know that the U.S. defeated Mexico 2-1 in the Gold Cup final this Sunday. Here it was quite a big deal. They were selling Mexican flags on the street outside church. We didn't buy one, even though Drew is an avowed Mexico supporter. Our service today was rather improvisational. We arrived and the gate was closed--the guard never arrived to open. So we held our service in the first-floor hallway. We are going to start looking for a more convenient place to meet, one that is centrally located, where we can securely store our equipment, hold meetings during the week, and where WE can be the ones to open and close. Please pray that the Lord would open the door to a good location.

Everyone from the English ClubThank you for praying for us while the team was here this week. It was a very packed week and the group worked very hard (they asked for it). Our English conversation club was very successful. We like to have a one-on-one student-teacher ratio so that there are opportunities to discuss spiritual things. This week one young man accepted Christ and a young lady came to church on Sunday. Oh, and a good time was definitely had by all. Our construction project really needed the supervision of a professional, but we learned a lot and are helping a very needy family have a solid roof over there heads (when we finish). The VBS went well. We had about 70 kids every night, they heard the Gospel clearly presented, and we were able to sink deeper roots into our neighborhood. We are praying for the help we need to host a weekly Bible club for kids in the fall. One of the long-term goals we are contemplating is ministry specifically focused on this "colonia" (neighborhood) and this week was a good step in that direction.

VBS Kids PRAISE
1. The U.S. win. (just kidding).
2. For the work done by the FBUP group: contacts strengthened, a family helped, children loved.
3. For the young man who accepted Christ.
4. Another young man accepted Christ after the Alpha study this week.

PRAYER
1. Protection after the U.S. win. (Again, just kidding. The U.S. has played Mexico maybe 5 times since we've lived here, and we've never felt ourselves to be targets of hostility, thankfully).
2. For follow-up after the group's work...
2a.particularly for those in the English Club who have responded to Christ.
2b.for workers to lead and help with a Children's Bible Club in our house this fall.
3. For us as we prepare to be in Tacoma. There are responsibilities to delegate and preparations to make.

Grace be with you.
